Voter Registration
Voter Registration Requirements
To register in New Jersey, you must be:
- A United States citizen
- At least 17 years old but cannot vote until reaching the age of 18, except that you may vote in a primary election if you are 17 and will be 18 at the time of the following general election.
- A resident of the county for 30 days before the election
- A person not serving a sentence of incarceration as the result of a conviction of any indictable offense under the laws of this or another state or of the United States.
To participate in the 2026 General Election, you must be registered to vote in Middlesex County by Tuesday, October 13th.

How to register
By Mail
- Complete and mail in the voter registration application. Click here to access a printable voter registration form. Voter registration forms are also available to pick up at the library on the wall near the Reference Desk.
- Forms are also available to print in Spanish, Gujarati, Hindi, and Punjabi.
Online

How, When, and Where to Vote
Registered voters can vote in-person (either on Election Day or in advance during the Early Voting period), or by mail.
In-Person Voting
Early voting for the 2026 Primary and General Elections will be at the Monroe Township Library.
Early Voting
- Early voting for the 2026 Primary Election runs from Tuesday, May 26th through Sunday, May 31st. Open hours for voting are Monday – Saturday, 10am – 8pm ; Sunday, 10am – 6pm.
- Early voting for the 2026 General Election runs from Saturday, October 24th through Sunday, November 1st. Open hours for voting are Monday – Saturday, 10am – 8pm ; Sunday, 10am – 6pm.
Election Day
- Vote in-person at your assigned polling location on Election Day. You can find your polling location here.
Vote by Mail
- You must request a mail-in ballot to vote by mail. Click here to print a mail-in ballot request form. Forms are also available to pick up at the library.
- NEW IN 2026: You may now register online to vote by mail! Click here to submit an online application to vote by mail.
- Mail-in ballots must be mailed through the United States Postal Service (USPS) on or before 8:00pm on Election Day and be received by your county’s Board of Elections on or before 6 days after Election Day.
- Alternatively, mail-in ballots can be submitted in one of the Middlesex County Board of Elections drop boxes. The closest drop box is in front of the Monroe Township Library. You can find a list of other drop boxes here.
- Alternatively, mail-in ballots can be submitted directly to the Board of Elections’ Office in East Brunswick at 26 Kennedy Boulevard, Suite B.
- You cannot submit your ballot at the poll or vote in-person once you have applied to vote by mail.

May 12, 2026 – Last day to register to vote in the 2026 Primary Election.
May 26 – May 31, 2026 – Early Voting for the 2026 Primary Election
June 2, 2026 – 2026 Primary Election, 6am – 8pm
October 13, 2026 – Last day to register to vote in the 2026 General Election.
October 24 – November 1, 2026 – Early voting for the 2026 General Election
November 3, 2026 – 2026 General Election, 6am – 8pm

You can track the status of your ballot online through the NJ Voter Information Portal (click here). You will need to create an online account, if you do not already have one.

- Vote 411 – A project of the League of Women Voters, Vote 411 offers voter registration information, including deadlines, and allows voters to search by state to see what will appear on their ballot.
- Vote Smart – Vote Smart includes search tools that allow you to research candidates and elected officials, voting records, and issues. Note that users may need to create a free account for unlimited access to the website.
- BallotReady – Check your registration, make a plan to vote, and research candidates and measures appearing on your ballot.
- Rutgers Voting Rights Resource Guide – A reference guide with websites, videos, phone numbers, and other information regarding voting and voting rights (including accessibility and election protection hotlines).
- Federal Elections Commission – The FEC includes campaign filing information for candidates as well as a searchable database for voters.
