The Monroe Township Public Library will be hosting AARP Tax Preparation again this year.

Specially trained AARP volunteers will provide free assistance beginning early in February to taxpayers filing their annual income tax returns.

Scheduling for appointments will begin on at 9:30 am on Monday, January 27, 2025. Appointments can be made online or by calling the Library at 732-521-5000.

Appointments are required. No walk-ins will be accepted. Appointments will be on Mondays and Thursdays between February 3 and April 10.  Exception: There will be no appointments on Monday, February 17.

Please note that appointments are limited to one per person. Multiple appointments will not be honored and will be canceled. If you need to cancel your appointment for any reason, please call the Library as soon as possible, so that someone else may be able to make an appointment.

For 2025 masks will be optional for counselors and taxpayers.

Each taxpayer will need to pick up a pre-appointment packet, provided by AARP. Packets will be available at the Library Reference Desk for taxpayers who have already scheduled their tax preparation appointment. All forms in the Packets must be completed BEFORE the scheduled appointment.

Please note, for joint returns, both spouses must be present during the entire tax return preparation and the Quality Review processes.

If you feel sick or are experiencing any symptoms of Covid, the Flu or a Cold please do not come in for your appointment. Let the Library know, and we will make every effort to reschedule you for another date.

Again this year AARP Tax Volunteers will be doing In Person* Tax Preparation Only. The taxpayer(s) will bring their tax documents to the Library at their scheduled appointment time. The volunteer will interview the taxpayer(s) and review all of their documents to determine if they are within AARP’s scope before starting the return. The taxpayer(s) will be required to stay with the counselor during tax return preparation and with a second counsellor who will do a Quality Review of the tax return. You should be prepared to stay for up to three hours.

Please note: We are sorry, but we will not be able to do any out of state Tax Returns (i.e., New York and Pennsylvania). So, if you live in NJ but work in NY or PA, have Gambling Winnings from PA, or are required to file an out of state return for any reason, you will need to go to a paid preparer. Additionally, you must be a full-time Resident of NJ. We cannot do Partial Year Resident Returns.
