This afternoon Governor Murphy announced the latest statistics related to the COVID-19 Coronavirus. As of 2pm, there are a total of 29 presumptive positive cases, with 5 new cases reported today. One of the new cases is a 53-year-old from Manalapan.

Middlesex County currently has 2 presumptive positive cases, one in Edison and the other in East Brunswick. Both are currently hospitalized.

Governor Murphy also recommended all events and gatherings of 250 persons or greater be cancelled.

“We will follow the guidance and recommendations passed down from the Governor’s Office.  Our priority is keeping the residents of Monroe Township safe. We continue to act on the CDC recommendations regarding social distancing to keep any exposure at a minimum here in NJ,” said Mayor Gerald W. Tamburro. “Our Township Emergency Management Team maintains close contact with our federal, state and county emergency partners in response to this national emergency.”

In an attempt to safeguard the Monroe community, Mayor Tamburro announced the following programming changes, effective 8:00am, Friday, March 13:

MONROE TOWNSHIP LIBRARY:  All programming, activities and meetings are suspended until further notice. Bookmobile service will continue during this time.  The circulation desk will remain open. Access the library website at for e-books, magazine, music and movies for free.

MONROE TOWNSHIP RECREATION: All recreation programming, activities and meetings are suspended until further notice.  The fitness room is closed. There will be no open gym hours. All sports REGISTRATION will continue online through Community Pass.

MONROE SENIOR CENTER:  All Township sponsored Senior events, trips, classes and programming held at the Senior Center, 12 Halsey Reed Road have been suspended.

The CDC has announced a restriction on all visitors to any long-term care facility or nursing home.

Monroe Township will use social media, emails, the municipal website, broadcast channels and the Nixle alert system to provide the latest information available. Community members are urged to sign up for Nixle notifications by going to or by texting 08831 to 888777.
