THE MONROE TOWNSHIP CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION presents four Boheme Opera NJ programs, broadcast over ZOOM, in collaboration with the Monroe Township Library.

All shows will be held on Wednesdays, at 1pm.

November 18, 2020 – The Path From Opera to Broadway – This presentation would demonstrate how every aspect of today’s Broadway shows was derived from classic opera as it was performed over 200 years ago.  Composers would include Mozart, Lehar, Strauss, Rodgers and Hammerstein, Bernstein, Gershwin and others.  Selections would include Toreador SongVilja, O ViljaLuck Be a Lady, People Will Say We’re in Love and more.

December 2, 2020 – A Night in Vienna – This presentation will focus on operetta in Vienna and then America from Viennese born composers.  Composers selected include Lehar, Strauss, Herbert, Romberg, Friml, Gilbert and Sullivan and others.  Operettas would include Merry Widow, Naughty Marietta, Die Fledermaus, Student Prince, The Mikado and more.

December 9, 2020 – Unique Broadway – This performance focuses on composers and shows that were unique in breaking new ground.  Composers include Leonard Bernstein, Kurt Weill, Harnick and Bock, and Michel Legrand, Alan and Marilyn Bergman. Shows include West Side Story, On the Town, Threepenny Opera, Fiddler on the Roof, Yentl and others.

December 16, 2020 – Giants of Broadway – This performance features the music from shows composed by Rodgers and Hammerstein and Lerner and Loewe.  Shows include Sound of Music, South Pacific, King and I, My Fair Lady and Camelot.  Songs would include Some Enchanted Evening, Getting to Know You, My Favorite Things, If Ever Would I Leave You, On the Street Where You Live and more.
