Ahoy Readers!

Last year over 1,050 kids read for a record breaking 9,600 hours in our Summer Reading Program! We hope that you are getting excited for our 2010 Summer Reading program because we’re going to blow last year out of the water in two ways: we're going to have you register and log your hours online (in our efforts to go green) and beat the 9,600 hour record!

Let’s set sail together for an even better, greener summer of reading. Registration will begin on Friday, June 25th, 2010.

• Children birth to grades 6 are invited to participate in one of our summer reading programs: Independent Reader or Read-to-Me (children who are read to).
• Click on the “Summer Reading Registration” link. By registering online you will be able to log your hours anywhere, even on vacation or at home in your pajamas. If you don’t want to register online, fill out the registration form on the back of this  paper and bring it to the Youth Services Department.
• Create a user name and password (an email address is required) to make  an account to log your reading hours. After you’ve registered, visit the Library to pick up your prize for registering (a fold-a-way Frisbee for the beach!).

Which Summer Reading Program is right for me?

If you are an Independent Reader (kids who read on their own):

Log your hours online for every 1 hour you read. We will generate a random drawing for cool weekly prizes. Remember, the more you read the better your chances are to win.

Each electronic ticket will also be entered into a monthly drawing for a  $25 gift   certificate to the Freehold Raceway Mall that will be pulled at the end of July & August.

Also, after you’ve reached the following reading milestones  you’ll get these fun prizes:

• 5 hours          receive a coupon for an ice-cream from Mendoker’s Bakery.
• 10 hours         pick a book from our prize cart!
• 20 hours         enter your name into a raffle for an iPod Shuffle & iTunes gift card!

If you are a Read-To-Me (young children who are still being read to by a parent):

Keep track of the reading you do with your child using our Reading Achievement Tracker. Visit the Library each week to place a scale on his/her  Rainbow Fish for every 1 hour you read together. We’ll keep the fish on display in our Youth Services Department during the summer months so you can show off all of the reading you did together!

After you’ve reached the following reading milestones together you’ll get these fun prizes:

• 20 hours         get the gold rainbow fish scale and be entered into a raffle for some fun toys!
